Nestlé Wins Grand Anvil Award for Centennial Celebration

Nestlé Philippines, Inc. (NPI) has been awarded the Grand Anvil for the company’s 2011 celebration of 100 years in the Philippines with the theme, Kasambuhay, Habambuhay (Companion in Life, For Life). The Grand Anvil is the highest form of recognition for a PR program in the country.

The 47th Anvil Awards, an annual competition first held in 1963 by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), drew a total of 283 entries in the PR program category, with 161 submitted to jurors and 21 winning the Anvil Award of Excellence.

“We are most grateful to the PRSP and the Anvil 2011 jurors for recognizing Nestlé Philippines’ efforts to celebrate our centennial by honoring Filipino consumers and reaffirming our bonds with them,” said Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO John Miller. “The Grand Anvil strengthens our resolve to pursue our mission of helping to nurture future generations of Filipino families, and contributing to the development of a strong and prosperous nation, in the next 100 years,” he added.

“In receiving the Grand Anvil we are humbled by the trust of Filipino consumers in Nestlé. They have made the company’s centennial possible,” Nestlé Philippines Director of Communications Sandra Puno said, “and the award gives us great inspiration in serving as their Kasambuhay, Habambuhay, in meeting their continuously evolving needs in nutrition, health and wellness.”

The celebration of Nestlé Philippines’ centennial started with the launch of its acclaimed centennial TV commercial, which paid tribute to the Filipino family through generations, with the company’s brands as a constant presence in everyday life. The second phase was the launch of the Nestlé Kasambuhay, Habambuhay Short Film Anthology, a 100-minute collection of 10 short films directed by the country’s top creative film directors who have also produced TV commercials for Nestlé. Inspired by so many stories of Nestlé brands as Kasambuhay to countless Filipinos, the highly entertaining films have been shown for free in local cinemas as well as free and cable TV.

The centennial celebration of Nestlé throughout 2011 included: an initiative at the start of the year by its sales force to build 100 tables and 200 benches for Gawad Kalinga, which set a new record for the largest carpentry lesson in the Guinness Book of World Records; the I Choose Wellness Expo 2011 which over two days drew 24,000 consumers who experienced Nestlé Wellness activities and its brands; the MILO Help Give Shoes Campaign, which provided running shoes to children in need; the Limited Edition Centennial Cookbook, a collection of 100 recipes developed for the Filipino palate; and the Likhang Kasambuhay Painting Project in which Nestlé family members created artworks under the tutelage of artist Glen Blanco, which were then auctioned and the proceeds turned over to the Angono Council of Tradition, Culture and Arts.

The Grand Anvil award marks the 3rd time that the 100 Years Celebration has been lauded with the highest honors by a prestigious award-giving body, the first being the ARAW Awards, which were handed out during the Advertising Congress where Nestlé Philippines won the Advertiser of the Year Award with 13 Bronze, 10 Silver and 5 Gold ARAW Awards; the second at the PANATA Awards, the Philippine Association of National Advertisers’ values awards where Nestlé was given two Gold trophies and 17 awards.

Since 1911, Nestlé has maintained a continuous local presence, while becoming an integral part of daily life in serving the food and beverage needs of Filipino families. NESTLÉ GLOBAL CEO AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PHILIPPINES

In a meeting with President Benigno Aquino at Malacanang Palace, Nestlé S.A. CEO Paul Bulcke re-affirmed the Nestlé Group’s commitment to the Philippines as the company celebrates its 100th year of doing business in the country.

Accompanied by Nestlé S.A. EVP Frits van Dijk, Zone Director for Asia, Oceania, Africa and the Middle East, and Nestlé Philippines, Inc. Chairman and CEO John Miller, Mr. Bulcke is in the country for an update on Nestlé operations in the Philippines and to meet with public and private sector leaders.

“The global Nestlé family proudly congratulates Nestlé Philippines on its centennial. This is a remarkable milestone in its enduring mission to provide generations of Filipino families with tasty food and beverage products that promote nutrition, health, and wellness. We are deeply grateful for the trust that Filipinos have put in Nestlé brands through the years,” Mr. Bulcke said.

Mr. Bulcke said the Nestlé Group looks forward to the next 100 years of serving future generations of Filipinos with high-quality brands offering affordable nutrition. These brands are supported by Nestlé’s outstanding food and nutrition R & D capability, which is the largest in the world. “We will strive to continue to create shared value by working with leading stakeholders in society and by focusing upon nutrition, water management and rural development, all of which are areas that are particularly pertinent to our business. Mr. van Dijk, who served Nestlé Philippines, Inc. for many years, said that the Philippines is a key market for Nestlé both in ASEAN and worldwide. Sales of Nestlé Philippines totaled PhP 92 billion in 2010, making it the 8th largest corporation locally. NPI currently has four factories manufacturing coffee, milks, chocolate energy drinks, cereals, infant nutrition products, ice cream and chilled dairy products.

A fifth Nestlé factory is under construction in Tanauan, Batangas, and will start operations in 2012. “As Nestlé Philippines marks its centennial, the ongoing construction of the Tanauan factory is a concrete re-affirmation of our commitment to the Philippines,” said Mr. van Dijk. Nestlé has invested over PhP 10 billion in the country in the past five years, with PhP 4.8 billion allocated for the Tanauan facility. The bulk of these investments have gone towards enhancing production capability to meet growing local market demand.

Mr. Bulcke said, “By opening a new factory, we are closer to our consumers and our valued customers. At the same time, we are able to enhance local economic activity by creating employment and business opportunities for partners and suppliers.”

Turning to global operations, Mr. Bulcke said that a significant portion of Nestlé’s growth has and will come from emerging markets, in which it is already strongly represented. Nestlé sales in these markets currently amount to CHF 39 billion or 35 percent of turnover, and are projected to grow to 45 percent by 2020.

“The Philippines continues to grow in importance to Nestlé. We believe that making long-term investments will help unlock the country’s great potential. The diversity and dynamism of Filipinos and the favorable demographic and economic growth trends mean that the country will continue to draw foreign investments which, I believe, will contribute significantly to its growth and development. Nestlé’s long-standing presence in the Philippines and our ongoing investments re-affirm our confidence in the country and our commitment to nurture future generations of Filipino families,” Mr Bulcke said.

Nestlé celebrates 100 years in Pinoy culture

FROM the President’s sister Kris Aquino, Mega couple Sharon Cuneta and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Piolo Pascual, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Pokwang, Kim Chu and Gerald Anderson (who arrived separately and chatted briefly), to Eddie Garcia, Marvin Agustin, Mike Enriquez and other notable personalities—the guest list was enviable as it was impressive. It was after all an event that was 100 years in the making.

Nearly a thousand people graced the premiere screening of Nestlé’s short film anthology Kasambuhay, Habambuhay on Sunday at the Newport Theater in Resorts World Manila.

With the theme, “Companion in Life, for Life,” for its centennial celebrations, Nestlé Philippines first came up with a heartwarming 90-second television advertisement that illustrates how the company’s products have become a significant part of Filipino family life.

John Miller, CEO and chairman for Nestlé Philippines, said: “This relationship with the Filipino consumers, anchored on the quality of our brands and the role that these much loved brands have played in helping nurture and nourish Filipino families, is what led us to our centennial theme Kasambuhay, Habambuhay.”

100 years in the telling

But with still so many great stories left to tell, Nestle decided to come up with Sine Kasambahay, a 100-minute anthology of 10 short, entertaining and creative films each reflecting a part of Philippine culture and how each of their brand has become part of Philippine culture.

The bar, however, had been set quite high as Nestle had produced some of the most memorable ads and catchphrases throughout the years—from “I remember yesterday the world was so young;” “Great things start from small beginnings;” “Let’s sit and talk awhile;” to favorites such as “You’re my No.1;” and “I-bottomless ang saya.”

Choosing from a select roster of commercial directors who have previously helmed Nestlé TV commercials, the challenge was to capture the wide spectrum of emotions and present it in a way that shows how Nestle has become a part of Pinoy culture itself.

The directors pitched stories of various genres for brands Bear Brand Powdered Milk Drink, Nescafé, Milo, Nestea, Mido, Coffee-Mate, Maggi, Bear Brand Sterilized, Nestlé Ice Cream, Koko Krunch, Nestlé Fruit Selection Yogurt and Nestlé Fitnesse. The exercise yielded a spectrum of stories—but there could only be one story per brand. After a difficult process of selection, 10 stories were selected, which vary from drama, romantic comedy, musical, fantasy, satire, family comedy, suspense, adventure, mock-umentary and even a Shakespearean parody.

“We envisage the films as an opportunity to look to the future and our mission to continue providing Filipinos with tasty and high-quality products that promote nutrition, health and wellness,” Miller said. “Creativity plays a central role in this mission and these excellent films display the very best of Filipino creative talent in the realm of filmmaking.”

“Through this film series, we would like to thank and honor the generations of Filipino consumers and families who have put their trust in Nestlé and its brands, and have made them a part of their everyday lives,” Nestlé Communications director Sandra Puno said.

Sine Kasambahay opened with “The Howl and the Fussyket” (Eugene Domingo and Kiray Celis), a humorous take on how the family comes together during competitions—whether it’s for a national contest or in this case a second grade declamation. Determined to help her son win despite his obvious “f” and “p” speech defect, (“What a veautiful ‘fussy’ you are!”), Domingo decides to hire a call center agent and an upstart stage actor to prepare him for the contest and taking the word “kinareer” to new heights.

Next was “Unplugged” (Eddie Garcia, Marvin Agustin, and Kaye Abad) a story of a young football team who goes on a field trip to the province to learn the value of team work. Initially too caught up with their gadgets, the boys eventually learn to value the simpler things in life and unlock a new world of natural wonder of nature and discovery—that going offline is the only way to reconnect back to life.

“Silup” (Sid Lucero and Gloria Romero) on the other hand is a peek into the often dangerous life of a cop—his dealings with denizens and the crimes they commit; why he has remained single; and the reason behind his seemingly strange and symbolic routine of taking out a can of sterilized milk and depositing his gun in place.

Paying comedic homage to the epic film Himala, “Isang Tasang Pangarap” (Ramon Bautista) tells the story of Elias, a down and out young man whose most prized possession is a shiny red coffee cup. After an encounter with a Nora Aunor-looking sari-sari store owner, Elias gains the ability to tell the future and with it the fame and responsibility that goes with his newfound power.

The mere appearance of Kuya Bodjie Pascua of Batibot fame in “Sali Salita” (Migs Cuaderno, Bodjie Pascua and Judy Chua) was a giveaway that some good story telling was about to ensue, and he did not disappoint. The story was about a mother who writes children’s storybooks but doesn’t have enough time to create stories for her own son. The young boy eventually finds the attention he desperately craves for with the arrival of his grandfather (Pascua). Together the two fill up an empty milk can with words and creates a magical tale of heroes and villains—all that was needed was a good ending.

Fans of the Nicos in the Nestea-serye of commercials will enjoy “Oh! Pa Ra Sa Ta U Wa Yeah!” (Neil Coleta and Jillian Ward), which takes the Clemente family on an MTV-esque road trip. But while the entire family was in high spirits, Nicos seemed to be out of it. Seeing his son distraught in trying to figure out Mattina, Nicos’s father finally shares the centuries-old family heirloom—an alphabetical manual of how their clan courted women.

One of the most applauded and the best films of the night, “Downtown” (Virgilio Que) is a tale of an aging Chinese man who has floated through life with his ladylove by his side. But now, times have changed as he begins each day waking up alone on his bed made for two. He becomes distant, alienating people around him and realizes that even a cup of coffee has it better because it will always have a creamer as its mate. He eventually decides to get his act together for a second shot at the greatest thing in life—love.

“Tingala sa Baba” (Arby Cesar Viduya, and Eubert Marc de la Cruz) is a coming of age satire featuring two kids on a seesaw from different social backgrounds. The chubby kid who comes from a well to do family finds himself always at the bottom—looking up to a lanky child brought up in poverty. How they try to reverse positions shows just how friendship is more valuable than money and the true worth of a friend.

The classic tale of Romeo and Juliet takes on a Shakespearean (or is it Balagtasan) twist in “Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko” (Isay Alvarez, Nonie Buencamino and Robert Sena) as two warring families try to battle it out for carinderia supremacy—while their two children have secretly fallen in love with each other. It portrays the often copy-cat mentality of Filipinos and our love for food.

Finally, “Sign Seeker” (John Lloyd Cruz and Solenn Heussaff) takes the Filipino belief in superstition to a romantic level as a young man seeks all sorts of divine signs to determine his decision to ask the girl of his dreams out on a date. As each sign materializes, however, he begins to ask for more unfathomable ones as the fear of rejection seems too much for him to bear. John Lloyd Cruz once again proves why he is one of the best actors of today, as he shines throughout the 10 short minutes, making you wish it was a full-length movie instead.

The films will be shown to the public on June 10 at SM Megamall. June 11 and 12 will Free Movie Weekend, and viewers get to watch for free at selected SM cinemas nationwide (Megamall Cinema 3, Southmall Cinema 6, Rosales Cinema 1, Davao Cinema 1 and Cebu Cinema 7). Five lucky viewers (one per cinema) will get a chance to win P10,000 per area just by voting for their favorite short film.

Nestle also published a centennial cookbook entitled Celebrating 100 years of Cooking with Nestlé. It features 100 easy-to-prepare, affordable and tasty recipes developed for Filipino taste buds using Nestlé products.

Miller added that its century-long presence in the Philippines is just the start of things to come and concluded: “Our mission continues into the future as we forward to the next 100 years. That mission centers on our commitment to nurture generations of Filipino families with tasty products that promote nutrition, health and wellness.”

Kasambuhay, Habambuhay: Scenes from a good life

MILK memories are among the best flashback moments of life.

And every Filipino childhood has them – tucked away in the heart. Scenes that pop up in the mind and shoot a feel-good rush through the body. A glance or gesture that evokes a familiar thrill or recalls the calm certainty that all is right and well in the world. Snapshots so crisp they shimmer even through the haze of an approaching twilight.

It’s not difficult to get people reminiscing and talking about such moments, Nestlé Philippines, Inc. (NPI) realized, when they sought to find out what generations of Filipinos across a century think and feel about Nestlé and its brands.

The company got on this track about a year ago, when it was looking towards a corporate milestone – a hundred years of continued presence in the country, from when the Nestlé and Anglo Swiss Condensed Milk Company established its first sales office in Calle Renta, Binondo. That should have been reason enough to celebrate. Except that for Nestlé Philippines, corporate longevity alone does not necessarily call for a celebration.

“It was not so much a question of whether we should celebrate, as what we wanted to celebrate,” recalled Sandra C. Puno, Nestlé Director of Communications. “We didn’t want an event that would just be an occasion to trumpet our age and extol our achievements.” If a centennial celebration was to have meaning for the company, she added, it would have to be in the context of the relationship Nestlé has, and that it hopes to continue, with Filipino families who have trusted the Nestlé brand and welcomed its products into their homes for generations.

“We believe our consumers are part of our 100 years and that we’ve somehow connected with their lives, so we went and asked them what they thought of a 100-year milestone,” Puno explained. “And it was so heartwarming because we discovered that people, over a wide range of ages and sectors, had vivid memories of growing up with Nestlé products.”

The memories were actual vignettes of real Filipino family life, at various decades and in different settings. Young boys and girls languidly sipping BEAR BRAND Sterilized Milk back when it was packaged in the unique paper-wrapped tin cans. Siblings waking up to a glass of warm NIDO Instant Full Cream Milk at the breakfast table and downing another one at bedtime. Stirring in MILO for a thick refreshing choco-malt treat and time-out energy boost. Idyllic yet scorching summers made bearable with pitchers of NESTEA enough to go around among friends. Cherished NESCAFÉ moments, through life’s highs and lows, through tumult and tranquility, stimulating each day, each effort and making them all worthwhile. And other scenes around the dinner table or in the kitchen where Nestlé was part of the Filipino family.

It was clear then that the story of 100 years of Nestlé in the Philippines was tightly woven into the fabric of Filipino life. Tracing the history of the company was like peering into the window of a home where generations live and love, keeping alive the very ideals and traditions that Nestlé lives by, and that generations of consumers have continued to rely on.

This led to the crafting of the Nestlé centennial television commercial (TVC) “Kasambuhay, Habambuhay” (Companion in life – for life) as a special tribute to this unique relationship between the company and the Filipino family.

The centennial TVC, with the background song “Pag-ibig” written and composed by APO Hiking Society member Danny Javier, unfolds before the audience in 90 seconds, a 100-year saga of the Filipino family, all the while mirroring scenes from the viewers’ own childhood and adolescence, courtship and marriage, parenthood and grandparenthood. The scenes are endearing because they are familiar to every Filipino family and individual of the past century – as real as the lump in the throat and the tug at the heart that come with each personal flashback moment.

"The centennial TVC is inspired by love for the family, a cultural trait which unites Filipinos. We are grateful because through the years, Nestlé products have become very much a part of the Filipino families’ way of life, from generation to generation, in various stages of their lives,” said Nestlé Chairman and CEO John Miller. “This relationship with the Filipino consumers, anchored on the quality of our brands and the role that these much loved brands have played in helping nurture and nourish Filipino families, is what led us to our centennial theme, Kasambuhay, Habambuhay.”

Nestlé Creative Services Executive Leslie Go-Alcantara said the 90-seconder TVC, which was directed by Stephen Ngo, significantly focuses not solely on the centennial milestone of Nestlé Philippines but on the milestones in the life of a Filipino family, during which the Nestlé brands bear quiet witness.

“The message is that Nestlé has always been there during family milestones, and this presence through 100 years is why we are celebrating, and sharing with them, our own milestone,” Go-Alcantara underscored.

“Good Food, Good Life,” the global slogan of Nestlé, is a commitment honored by Nestlé Philippines and well understood, appreciated and expected by Filipinos – not just the company’s consumers but its employees and workers as well. Conscious of and driven by the mission to nourish and nurture generations of Filipino families, the Company’s 3,200 employees – just as much its Kasambuhay – are committed to produce and market products under Nestlé’s well-known and trusted brands such as, NESCAFÉ, NIDO, MILO, NESTEA, MAGGI, BEAR BRAND, NESTLÉ, and PURINA.

Nestlé Philippines Sales Sets New Guinness World Record

The sales force of Nestlé Philippines, Inc. set a new Guinness World Record by conducting the largest carpentry lesson, and in the process building 100 tables and 200 benches within 100 minutes for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga (GK) families. Guinness World Records Ltd. made it official by sending Nestlé Philippines the new world record certificate.

Composed of approximately 525, the Nestlé sales force was mobilized into teams of four to five, with each tasked to build a table and two benches, breaking the current Guinness World Record of 250 people in the world’s largest carpentry lesson category. The exercise was monitored by independent observers and safety personnel. The 100th table was completed with 18 minutes to spare.

The carpentry lesson and the building of tables and chairs officially kicked off the Company’s celebration of its 100th year in the country and were part of the team building program of the Sales Kick-Off event last January, organized by the Centennial Kick-Off Committee.

The tables and benches were built with their importance to Filipino family life in mind, the dining table being at the heart of the home where family members gather to share meals and exchange stories for the day. During the turnover ceremony of the tables and chairs, Chairman and CEO John Miller said that “We hope that, with this modest effort, we shall be able to help serve some of the needs of the GK families, especially those who are without tables and chairs.”

John, with National Sales Director Paolo Rodriguez, Corporate Affairs Head Edith de Leon, and Corporate Wellness Head Cora Sager, presented the tables and benches to GK founder Tony Meloto. Also handed over were “good wishes” messages to individual recipient families and 600 dinner plates inscribed with the Nestlé nutrition guide for moderation, variety and balance (MoVaBa) to encourage sound dietary habits, as part of the Company’s long-term advocacy of nutrition, health and wellness.

Nestlé Philippines sponsors GK Villages in Baseco in Manila’s Tondo district and Lipa City in Batangas. Its involvement in Gawad Kalinga is part of its efforts to Create Shared Value (CSV) to help improve lives.

Nandu will replace Mr. Frits van Dijk who will take a well deserved retirement at the end of September 2011 after 41 years of service to Nestlé.

Of Indian nationality, Nandu joined Nestlé in 1989 in India where, over the next seven years, he took on increasing responsibilities, mainly in Marketing. His international career began in 1996 in Indonesia in the Confectionery Business Unit. In 2000, after a short period at the International Headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland, he returned to Nestlé Indonesia where he was promoted to Market Head in March 2003. In April 2005, he became Market Head of Nestlé Philippines. In October 2009, he returned to Vevey to take over the role of Global Business Head Infant Nutrition at Nestlé Nutrition. In September 2010, he was nominated to his current role as Deputy Executive Vice President in charge of Nestlé Nutrition.

Nandu has a solid business experience and has shown truly exceptional leadership skills in diverse circumstances. His excellent work in Nestlé Nutrition and his strong knowledge together with his great experience in Zone AOA, make him well prepared and qualified to take over this important responsibility.

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 4,000 children will receive new running shoes this Christmas, courtesy of the 34th National MILO Marathon (NMM).

The event's finals were held Sunday, with Filipinos Eduardo Buenavista and Flordeliza Donos ruling the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

Buenavista won his third crown, clocking 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 18 seconds, racing past Kenyans Willy Tanui (2:29:00) and William Kipyedo (2:30:19). He had previously won the 2002 and 2008 titles.

Meanwhile, criminology graduate Donos also kept the Philippine flag flying high, finishing at 3:05:07.

She crossed the finish line ahead of Kenyan Susan Jemutai (3:05:52) and Filipino Mary Joy Tabal (3:08:38).

The race started at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, with the number of participants reaching 15,000.

The NMM had 17 regional races across the country for the past 6 months.

Part of the proceeds from the 17 legs have already been used to donate 3,600 pairs of shoes to school children from Manila, Dagupan, Baguio, General Santos, Davao, Cebu, Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Ilo-Ilo, San Pablo, Naga, Batangas, Puerto Princesa, Tarlac, Olongapo, Butuan, and Cagayan de Oro.

Nestlé Philippines chairman John Miller was quoted at the groundbreaking ceremony for the P4.3 billion new factory in Tanauan, Batangas to be made over the next two years.

Miller also said that 2010 has been a “good year, with sales likely reach P95 billion.

The new factory in Batangas is expected to be completed in March 2012. It is situated on a 27-hectare site and will produce Coffee-Mate Non-Dairy Creamer and Bear Brand Powdered Milk Drink.

Miller said that with continued growth in demand for the two brands, both of which are market category leaders, the factory will increase much-needed manufacturing capability. The domestic market demand in 2010 for Bear Brand and Coffee-Mate is projected to grow by 19% and 8%, respectively, with Bear Brand exports under the brand name Everyday seen to grow by 38%.

“In 2011, Nestlé will celebrate one hundred years in the Philippines. One hundred years of service to the Filipino consumer is a great source of pride within our company and it is fitting that most of the Tanauan factory’s construction will take place during Nestlé Philippines’ centennial, signifying our continuing commitment to the country. Our investments, in line with our corporate thrust of Creating Shared Value (CSV) for all stakeholders in society, give us the confidence to look forward to the next 100 years of nurturing Filipino families by offering Nutritious, Health and Wellness products,” Mr. Miller said.

The Tanauan factory, which will contribute to the growth of the domestic economy, will initially provide direct employment for a new work force of 170, while creating many other jobs in businesses supplying the facility with raw materials and services.

MANILA, Philippines - Nestlé Philippines is planning at putting up two major facilities in its Batangas plant in the next 10 years in addition to a new P4.3-billion factory that will produce powdered milk and non diary coffee creamer.

President Aquino yesterday led the groundbreaking for the P4.3-billion factory in Tanauan, Batangas.

The factory, which is expected to be completed in March 2012, is situated on a 27-hectare site and will produce Coffeemate Non-Dairy Creamer and Bear BrandPowdered milk drink. Once the factory is operational, the Philippines will become the Coffeemate hub in Asia. Among the Asian countries, the Philippines is the largest consumer of Coffeemate.

Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO John Miller said that with the continued growth in demand for the two brands, both of which are market category leaders, the factory will increase much-needed manufacturing capability. Nestlé’s local investments in the past five years have totaled close to P 10 billion, with about 80 percent allocated for existing facilities to generate higher efficiencies and to protect the environment, while the balance 20 percent was deployed into sales infrastructure, distribution, and IT systems.

In 2009, Nestlé Philippines produced almost half a million metric tons of coffee, milk, beverages, non-dairy creamer, food, infant nutrition, ice cream, chilled dairy, and breakfast cereals.

The Nestlé business in the Philippines has grown in the last five years by an average of P 4.6 billion annually. With sales of almost P 86 billion in 2009, the company paid some P10.6 billion in taxes, a 20 percent increase over 2008.

MANILA, Philippines—Food and beverage giant Nestlé Philippines may put up two additional facilities on its 27-hectare property in Tanauan, Batangas within the next 10 years.

The two new facilities will complement the P4.3-billion non-dairy coffee creamer manufacturing plant that the company hopes to complete in March 2012.

President Aquino on Tuesday attended the ground-breaking rites for the company’s P4.3-billion plant in Batangas.

Once operational, the facility will produce Coffee Mate Non-Dairy Creamer and Bear Brand Powdered Milk products.

“We look forward to further expansion once we’ve gotten this phase complete,” Nestlé Philippines chair and chief executive John Miller said during Tuesday’s ground-breaking ceremony.

Since Coffee Mate and Bear Brand are both market category leaders, there is now a need to put up a new factory to boost the company’s manufacturing capability, Miller said.

Local demand for Bear Brand this year is seen to increase by 19 percent, while that for Coffee Mate is expected to grow by 18 percent.

Bear Brand exports, marketed under the brand name Everyday, will likewise post an estimated 38 percent growth this year.

“In 2011, Nestlé will celebrate 100 years in the Philippines. One hundred years of service to the Filipino consumer is a great source of pride within our company and it is fitting that most of the Tanauan factory’s construction will take place during Nestlé Philippines’ centennial, signifying our continuing commitment to the country,” Miller said.

Once operational, the Tanauan factory will generate employment for 170 individuals at the onset.

According to a Board of Investments approval issued in September, the new Nestlé plant had the potential to employ as many as 478 people.

Aside from the new Tanauan plant, Nestlé had also committed to invest in its existing factories in Cagayan de Oro City, Cabuyao in Laguna, Lipa in Batangas, and Pulilan in Bulacan.

Most of these investments were for technology and equipment upgrades.

Over the past five years, Nestlé’s investments in its local operations had reached almost P10 billion. Around 80 percent of this amount had been used to improve existing facilities.

The balance of the investments was spent on sales infrastructure, distribution, and information technology systems.

The company last year manufactured close to 500,000 metric tons of coffee, milk, beverages, non-dairy creamer, food, infant nutrition products, ice cream, chilled dairy, and breakfast cereals.

Average annual growth of the company’s Philippine business was placed at P4.6 billion. Sales from last year alone reached P86 billion.

OR, in several bouts of one to two exercises per bout in a day or on consecutive days until all exercises in the roster are done, making one cycle of exercises. It may also be done in circuit fashion, doing one set of each of the exercises, one after the other, without resting. Rest is only allowed after all exercises are done one set each. A two to three minute rest is then taken before starting a new circuit. Two to three circuits or sets maybe done.

For optimal gains, do two to three sets, two to three times weekly, on non-consecutive days. One may also choose to do a particular exercise more often if one wishes to emphasize on a particular body part.

Consistently doing the exercises will provide improvements to one's exercise and functional capacity. The exercises will be easier to do and gains will plateau. In this case, one may increase the number of repetitions by two repetitions each time until 20 repetitions per set is reached. After that, resistance may be increased by adding medicine balls to the movements, or in case they are already being used, wielding heavier and bigger medicine balls.

Since the exercises are of a light index of difficulty, a warm up is optional. If so desired, it may consist of a two to three minute walk, 10 to 15 knee bends, and eight to ten repetitions of single leg toe touches for each leg.

CHEST
Push ups

• Support the upper body with both hands, (shoulder-width apart, with fingers pointing forward) and the lower body with your feet. Trunk should be normally aligned , as in the standing position. Women may support their lower body with their knees in case they have difficulty maintaining trunk position
• Flex the elbows, lowering the body until almost touching the ground
• Then raise yourself back up to the starting position
• While doing so, make sure the hips go up at the same time as the shoulders. This may be done by tightening the abdominal area when pushing up.
• Do eight to ten repetitions

Filipino cuisine, which reflects our multicultural heritage, is an amalgamation of tastes, flavors, and cultural influences of Malay, Spanish, Chinese, and American origins. A number of the Filipino favorites are rich in flavors, such as nilagang baka, pork blood stew (dinuguan), duck’s egg (balut), Cordillera chicken dish (pinikpikan), papaitan (intestines cooked in bile), sisig, and fried pork and chicken skin (chicharon). These much-loved and often-requested dishes are undeniably delicious but are also rich in cholesterol.

For people with low risk for heart disease, the American Heart Association recommends less than 300mg of cholesterol per day through food. For those at risk, on the other hand, it recommends less than 200mg per day through food. For instance, for every 100 grams of beef, there is 3100mg of cholesterol.

But before we write off cholesterol as bad, we have to understand the important role that cholesterol plays in several key physiological functions. Produced in the liver and carried by proteins called lipoproteins, cholesterol serves as a precursor for many horproperties.

INGREDIENTS

16 pieces chocolate cream-filled sandwich cookies
1 pack NESTLE All Purpose Cream
One fourth cup confectioner's sugar
6 slices store-bought chiffon or sponge cake
One half cup semisweet miniature chocolate morsels
4 pieces chocolate cream-filled sandwich cookies, coarsely crushed

PROCEDURE

1. In an 8.5" x 4" loaf pan with waxed paper or aluminum foil.
2. Arrange 8 pieces of sandwich cookies at the bottom of the prepared pan and set aside.
3. Beat cream with confectioner's sugar until thick. Spread 3-4 tbsp of the mixture on top of the prepared cookies.
4. Arrange 3 slices of chiffon cake on top of the cream mixture, followed by another layer of sandwich cookies. Finish with the remaining cream. Sprinkle with chocolate morsels and crushed sandwich cookies. Cover with foil or waxed paper and freeze for 2 hours or until set. To serve, unmold, slice and arrange in a platter.

• Maintain the contraction of the abdominal muscles all throughout the movement.
• Do eight to ten repetitions.

20-30 pieces small barquillos

PROCEDURE

1.Process leftover fruit salad in a blender for 10 seconds. Add cream cheese and process for another 10 seconds.
2.Transfer into a piping bag, minus the tip. Slow pipe in filling into one barquillo until completely filled. Repeat with remaining barquillos and filling.
3.Wrap each barquillo with aluminum foil to resemble a candy wrapper. Tie both ends with colorful ribbons. Keep in the freezer until ready to serve.

A giant multinational food conglomerate exhorts everyone to keep fit.

Back in 1990, recalls Nestle Philippines, Inc. (NPI) Chairman and CEO John Martin Miller, he never saw any overweight person in Southeast Asia. At that time, the Englishman had just moved from the Middle East, where he worked for another company.

"Now, (obesity) is a growing problem," he laments, believing that it's been caused by the less healthy aspects of the Western diet that has crept into the eating habits of Asians. "This is why nutrition and wellness is very important to us (at Nestle). We want to help people to live a healthy lifestyle so people don't get obese and get diabetic.

The consumer-goods manufacturing giant has found an effective tool in accomplishing this goal in its annual campaign, I Choose Wellness Expo, which this year took place on July 3 and 4 at SM Megamall.

Celebrity Recipes plus Lifestyle attended the opening and experienced the overwhelmingly positive response of the public. For starters, long lines already formed outside the venue's entrance even before the event started at 10 a.m. And while inside, they eagerly checked out the booths that either rendered healthcare services like a free cholesterol check, hosted fun games or handed out samples of Nestle products. Never mind if they had to inch their way across the thick crowd to their next stop and stand in line each time they get there, achieving wellness was the rule of the day.

"So I think that's a big change that's taking place now," exclaims the NPI's head over lunch, after he cut the ceremonial ribbon and gave the opening remarks. "I think people have certainly become conscious of the need to lead healthy lifestyles."

In essence, it's just like going back to our gastronomic roots. Filipinos, Mr.Miller has observed, share the tradition of going to the wet market every morning to get the freshest produce with those from neighboring countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. It is also one activity that he enjoys doing with his wife, who's Malaysian of Cantonese lineage.

"Food is not only about nutrition; it's about the family, it's about the commonalities. People come together around the table. This is why food marketing is so basic," he states, adding that he's aware of the merienda culture in the country that has made easting five times a day the norm. "In England, we always talk about the weather. Here, people always say, 'Have you eaten yet?'"

It was small wonder then that the cooking demos were a huge hit at the expo. One of our columnists, Chef Tess Galang Sutilo, (she writes 'Hits') shared a couple of easy-to-prepare recipes like fresh fruits in cinnamon pandan sugar syrup and multi-layered dip.

Mr.Miller shares that Nestle products like Maggi Magic Sarap work in harmony with fresh produce that Filipinos are accustomed to find in the wet market. He also expresses amazement at how Milo, Nescafe and Nestea have become a big part of every Pinoy's day-to-day life since the global conglomerate entered the local market 99 years ago.

And Nestle makes its presence here even stronger by investing P4.3 billion over two years for a new factory to be built on a 27-hectare site in Tanauan, Batangas. It will not only serve its purpose of producing Coffee-mate non-dairy creamer and Bear Brand powdered milk drink but it will also create much-needed jobs. Now, that promises wellness for a lot of lives here.

FRESH FRUITS IN CINNAMON PANDAN SUGAR SYRUP

Ingredients:

1 cup water
2 pcs. pandan leaves tied in a knot
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup bottled cherries, drained, sliced into halves
1 pc. red apple, skin on & cube
1 pc. pear, skin pn & cube
1/2 cup green seedless grapes
1/2 cup red seedless grapes
1 (250mg) Nestle all purpose cream, chilled
cashew nuts, coarsely crushed
cinnamon powder

Procedure:

Make pandan syrup by boiling pandan leaves in water with sugar. Boil until sugar is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool. In a bowl,combine all fruits and toss into the pandan syrup. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Line individual containers with crushed cashew nuts. Scoop fruit mixture on top of fruits. Top with a dollop of cream and dust with cinnamon powder before serving.

• Return to the starting position.
• Do it eight times. Do both sides for two to three sets each.
• Make sure the downward movement is controlled and done twice as slow as the upward movement
• Inhale during the downward and recovery movement. Exhale during the upward and active movement

• Do eight to ten repetitions

Wellness Expo Boosts Nestlé Philippines NHW Campaign

Nestlé Philippines, Inc. once again affirmed its advocacy of nutrition, health, and wellness (NHW) for Filipinos as it successfully mounted the I Choose Wellness Expo on July 3-4, 2010 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Halls 2 and 3.

Nearly 20,000 shoppers responded to the Company’s invitation to choose wellness, flocking to the expo venue where they enjoyed free admission to the nutrition, health, and wellness seminars, and to the many exciting wellness activities that simultaneously took place at different areas around the expo.

Some 5,510 consumers signed up for the I Choose Wellness passport program, which they can use to earn points as they work toward achieving their fitness goals and attend Nestlé activities, while a total of 7,123 consumers availed of the free Nutrition Counseling where they had their health indicators checked. In addition, 3,000 consumers signed up to become members of the Nestlé Club.

Wellness in Different Parts of the House
This year’s I Choose Wellness Expo featured representations of different parts of a typical home where family members spend their time doing various activities and where Nestlé brands can serve as their nutrition, health and wellness partner. These rooms were: Living Room, Entertainment Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Girls’ Room, Boys’ Room, Ate’s Bedroom, Kids’ Playroom, Gym, Den, Lanai, Library, and Garage.

In the Living Room, NESCAFÉ kept consumers entertained with touch screen games and classic parlor games. In the Entertainment Room, NESTLÉ Fruit Selection Yogurt and KITKAT offered free photos and conducted contests that gave away exciting prizes to winners.

The Dining Room gave consumers the chance to experience SJORA products. NESTEA took up the Dining Room Extension, selling branded pitchers filled with free NESTEA drink. MAGGI and NESTLÉ All Purpose Cream reigned in the Kitchen, delighting consumers with cooking demos using Nestlé products.

The Girls’ Room was a sunny shade of NIDO yellow, where consumers were invited to Check the Label and test their skills in reviewing product labels. BEAR BRAND gave life to the Boys’ Room with games that incorporated learning. NESVITA Cereal Milk Drink took up Ate’s Bedroom with sampling and gave consumers the chance to get a free mug and a makeover through product purchases.

Families played to their hearts’ content in the Kids’ Playroom, with CHUCKIE and KOKO KRUNCH mascots joining them. In the Gym, MILO 3in1, NESVITA Pro-Bone, FITNESSE and LOW-FAT offered sampling and challenged consumers to Wii games and a biking game called Rolla Palooza.

NESTLÉ SORBETES saw countless consumers coming to the Den to try its interactive chroma screen dance activity, enticing them with samples of SORBETES along with BEAR BRAND Sterilized. COFFEEMATE was a hit at the Lanai with its photo booth, alongside BEAR BRAND Probiotic’s activities with free samples, NESCAFÉ RTD’s sampling and promos, NESVITA Pro-Heart’s free cholesterol check, and NUTREN’s nutrition counseling. NESTEA Fit and PURINA occupied the Garage area, where consumers had their photos taken with NESTEA Fit Hotties and signed up for free samples of ALPO and FRISKIES for their pets.

Consumers flocked to the Library to sign up for the Wellness Passbook program, a new feature of the Wellness Expo. Here they had their weight and height measured and their blood pressure checked.

These measurements were recorded in their Wellness Passbook to serve as their baseline data for pursuing their wellness goals.

Aside from touring the rooms and getting measured, consumers availed of the free Nutrition Counseling at the Counseling Area. A total of 20 nutritionists were on hand to give consumers expert advice on how to achieve their desired wellness goals through proper nutrition.

A selling area was also set up at the Expo where consumers bought Nestlé products. Total sales from the two-day affair, according to Corporate Wellness CMM Trixie Sia, amounted to almost PhP 250,000. According to Corporate Wellness Head Cora Sager, the I Choose Wellness Expo was designed as an enjoyable celebration for people from various walks of life, especially families, to enable them to explore the different ways in which they can pursue wellness in their lives. “We all have to realize that the quality of our wellness lies in our own hands. Only we can make the decisions and take the actions for ourselves that will determine the quality of our lives over the years,” said Cora.

Nestle Philippines 'greening' its supply chain

NESTLÉ Philippines is making sure that its environmental advocacy will spread throughout the lifecycle of its products by enjoining all the companies involved in its operations, from production to marketing, to take the green route.

Under its Greening the Supply Chain (GSC) program, Nestlé Philippines is influencing its suppliers, vendors and other business partners to improve their level of environmental performance.

"This ensures the continuous improvement of environmental performance throughout the supply chain, from producing and purchasing of raw materials, to manufacturing, packaging, distribution and finally to the consumer." Engineer Renato Alvarado, Nestlé's Corporate Safety, Health and Environment Executive, said.

Alvarado explained that the GSC program requires measures to reduce water consumption and energy efficiency initiatives.

The company, for its part, has also made substantial investments for its wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal and solid waste segregation.

Nestlé has been in the Philippines for 99 years. It has four manufacturing plants in the country.

The Cagayan de Oro factory manufactures Nescafé and Bear Brand, the Cabuyao factory produces Nido, Nesvita, Nan, Nestogen, Bear Brand Choco, Nestlé All-Purpose Cream, Ready-to-Drink Milo, Bear Brand Sterilized, and Chuckie; the Lipa factory, produces Milo and Nestlé Breakfast Cereals; and the Pulilan factory manufactures Nestlé Ice Cream and Chilled products.

The company recently announced that it is investing another P4.3-billion over two years for a new factory to be built on a 27-hectare site in Tanauan, Batangas.

Construction of the new factory will start this month and is expected to be completed in March 2012. The facility will produce Coffee-Mate Non-Dairy Creamer and Bear Brand Powdered Milk Drink.

To ensure the program's effective implementation, Alvarado said they also provide free education on environmental management system and a forum for exchanging best practices for business partners.

The firm also makes available its customized assistance such as initial environmental reviews and follow-up visits, he added.

"Environmental protection is a responsibility." said Alvarado. "Nestlé promotes activities which help establish awareness on the importance of environmental protection, transforming this awareness to conviction and sustainable actions among its employees, business partners and other stakeholders not only in business but even on personal level."

Nestlé Philippines is expected to strongly influence the green advocacy among enterprises in the country since it is one of the top six corporations here.

Former Chairman and CEO Nandu Nandkishore Commends NQC Team

Chairman and CEO Nandu Nandkishore commended the Non-Quality Cost (NQC) Project Team for its achievements in 2007, treating team members to a merienda on February 26. Total Non-Quality Cost was reduced by 27% in 2007 and 40% during the project team’s two-year existence.

An important contributor to this achievement was the Ice Cream and Chilled BU team, which was coached by Industrial Performance Head Philippe Chappet.

In preparation for 2008, the NQC team members visited the trade on January 27 to observe practices in the modern and traditional distribution of Nestlé products. They also went to the Port Area in February to observe operations of the port operator and customs broker.

The NQC team operates as a core group working through and with many collaborators in the organization to identify and reduce Non Quality Cost in the Commercial, Distribution and Technical areas. Led by Philippe Chappet, the core team draws membership from across the functions.

A new corporate entity of the global Nestlé Group, the NBS will serve as the shared service center for financial and employee service needs of Nestlé companies in Zone AOA (Asia, Oceania and Africa). Countries to be served by NBS include the Philippines, Malaysia/Singapore, Indonesia, Indochina, Australia and New Zealand. The entity’s financial services will include account payables and receivables as well as accounting operations, while its employee services will cover payroll, HR administration, time management and benefits administration.

Nandu said that the establishment of NBS in the country, which was announced in August 2007, is a concrete expression of the Nestlé Group’s long-term confidence and commitment to support the continued economic growth of the country. He noted that a number of countries had been considered as possible sites for NBS, with the Philippines finally selected because of talent availability and cost efficiency. “This decision recognizes our world-class capabilities in financial and employee services, and will allow us, yet again, to showcase Filipino competence. We are happy that through the NBS, we are able to help spur economic growth in the country,” he said.

NBS is designed to deliver best-in-class office support at competitive service levels and costs to Nestlé companies in the region. The Nestlé Group has successfully implemented the shared service model in Europe and the Americas, resulting in maximized cost effectiveness, efficiency, and higher quality of financial and employee service transactions.

“NBS AOA centralizes the financial and employee service requirements of various Nestlé companies in Zone AOA at one location, in the Philippines. We expect this shared service setup not only to deliver cost efficiencies, but to also allow Nestlé companies to focus more on their core business, which is generating demand,” Craig shared during the briefing with the President.

NBS AOA is located at the same site in Meycauayan where Nestlé Philippines’ North Distribution Center operates as the Company’s largest and most modern distribution center in the country. “We chose Meycauayan as the NBS site because the area is underdeveloped from a BPO standpoint. This will allow us to recruit local talent, control turnover, and deliver on our commitments,” Craig explained.

He said that financial and employee services transactions are being taken over by NBS progressively, starting with Nestlé Philippines which completed the transition of its financial services by end of 2007, and its employee services this month. A total transition of all Nestlé companies in-scope in the Zone is expected by end of 2008.

NBS AOA now has a complement of 200 professionals with finance and HR expertise, with its manpower expected to grow close to 450 by end of 2008, almost all of whom will be Filipinos. “A major reason why we chose the Philippines as the site for the NBS AOA Shared Service

Centre is the availability of local talent, with an impressive number of graduates generated by the Philippine educational system. We view this as a key strength that will allow us to drive success for NBS AOA,” Craig said.

Welcome to our team of winners!” Chairman and CEO Nandu Nandkishore greeted the sharkforce, who, together with selected distributors and representatives of the BESTeams and Shared Service units, gathered for the first day plenary session of this year’s National Sales Kick-Off held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza from January 31 to February 1, 2008.

For the first time in the history of Nestlé Philippines and consistent with this year’s Kick-Off theme of Winning as One, the sharkforce of the Ice Cream and Chilled Dairy joined their colleagues from Grocery Retail, Nestlé Nutrition, and Nestlé Professional for the 2008 National Sales Kick-off, with one theme and under one roof. The Sales Kick-off for Ice Cream and Chilled had traditionally been held separately in the past.

This, according to Nandu, is a demonstration of the NPI team’s commitment to win as one in 2008. “It is time to think and act as one. We have to help each other win as one. We have to help each other fix each other’s problems. A winning team leaves no one behind. A winning team wins as ONE!”

Fresh from the wins of 2007, the NPI sharkforce should make winning a habit, added Nandu. “Every single day, we have to win the equivalent of 20 million votes from our consumers! So let’s ask ourselves, ‘In every store, every day, what can I do to win?’ Let us continue to approach things with the hunger of a challenger, and walk away as hungry winners.”

He cited the success stories of Infant Nutrition, Ice Cream, and Nestlé Professional. “Infant Nutrition lost fire five years ago and is now back, exceeding targets. Ice Cream has been in deep touble, and has come back. Nestlé Professional cut its sales and SKUs by half and came back after middle of last year with 10% growth.”

The difference between winners and losers is attitude, he stressed. “If you believe you will win, you will win! This winning attitude will push us for a win in every store, with consumers and with customers.”

Well Done, Sharkforce!
Grocery National Sales Director Shahab Bachani commended the Sharkforce for a job well done in 2007. “Undoubtedly, 2007 was a great year for us, allowing us to achieve our targets despite the difficult business environment. In 2007, we have shown that we are a team that reached beyond. This is another proof that success can only be achieved if every member of the NPI team work together.”

Shahab also paid tribute to his predecessor, former Grocery National Sales Director Eugenio Simioni, who left Nestlé Philippines in September last year to head the Nestlé Group Audit in Switzerland. “This success would not have been possible without the leadership of Eugenio. Eugenio, this is because of your effort!”

He challenged the sharkforce to Win again, as One in 2008. “We have won in 2007, “but this is history now. It is 2008, and it is time to raise the bar and be best in class. COFFEE-MATE COMMUNICATES

I’m glad that ad agency McCann Erickson recently launched a second version of Nestle’s Coffeemate television commercial with the young married couple having an afternoon snack.

This time, it’s the husband doing the same nonverbal communication to his wife, signaling his approval of sticking to coffee with Coffeemate instead of the rich merienda choices on the table.

Of course, the first frames highlighted the husband’s "coughing out" his disapproval of his wife’s starting on totally calorific snack options. Many term this an "ehem," a subtle attempt of calling someone’s attention.

I especially like the apparent readiness of the wife whose attention is being called to modify her actions, even if her palate vehemently disagrees.

Before this new second version appeared on TV last week, a number of my friends articulated their husbands’ feeling that the husband in the first commercial seemed overly cowed by the wife to acquiescence.

Precisely because the creative device was to communicate the classic goodness of Coffeemate without having to utter a word, what first tumbled out was the unspoken "Makuha ka sa tingin!" (You better know what’s good for you just by looking at me!). Ooops, dangerously offensive to the male ego, if you ask me.

Then, last week, we all interpreted that it was apparently part of McCann’s strategy of husband and wife’s intimate perfect communication without the need for words. It was great that we now have two versions, where wife and husband alternate with sender-of-message roles. It would be good to regularly bicycle the two versions. That’s a great Nestlé strategy of appropriate marital wellness, you might say.

Director Lyle Sacris of production house Abracadabra and Director Henry Frejas of Filmex must themselves be used to employing nonverbal communication in their own life scenarios, considering their hectic lifestyles. It’s generally more difficult to send a message without the use of words and I must congratulate the two directors for good timing and pacing, and catching the precise facial expressions of both the sender of the message and the receiver of the message.

In real life though, let’s enrich one another’s lives with grabbing and maximizing every opportunity for great loving communication. It’s amazing how we can heal hurts or revive and enliven an otherwise drab day for family and friends. "It is the vitality of faith that tells us that the place of communicating, for loving, for sheltering, for trying, is right where we are."

Hot cups of coffee and Coffeemate are indeed beautiful companions for extended stimulating conversations specially during these days of pouring rains.

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass or what is called brittle bones.

• Osteoporosis leads to an increased risk of bone fractures typically in the wrist, hip, and spine.

• Our body needs calcium for healthy bones, teeth, and the proper function of the heart, muscles, and nerves.

• But the body cannot produce calcium, so we have to get it from the food we eat. Milk and dairy products (whole milk, low fat or nonfat milk, cheese, yogurt) are the best sources of calcium.

NESTLÉ D'LITE CREAM Recipes: Pan-Fried Dory with Creamy Asparagus Sauce

INGREDIENTS
One half kgcream dory fillets
1 cupflour
1 8g sachetMAGGI MAGIC SARAP
salt and pepper to taste
oil for frying
2 tbspbutter
2 tbspflour
1 packNESTLE DLITE CREAM
1 cupblanched and sliced asparagus

PROCEDURE

1.Combine flour with MAGGI MAGIC SARAP, salt and pepper. Dredge fish fillet in seasoned flour.

2.Pan-fry prepared fish fillet in hot oil until golden brown. Transfer onto a plate, using paper towels to drain excess oil.

3.In a pan, heat butter. Add flour and stir to make a roux. Pour in NESTLE DLITE CREAM and stir until desired thickness is achieved. Add asparagus and remove from heat. Transfer onto a blender and process until smooth. To serve, pour on top of prepared fish.

Did you know that it is not necessary to have all food groups in the Filipino Food Pyramid in one meal?

• You can have fruits and dairy products during breakfast and vegetables and meat during lunch or dinner

• Choose foods that are low in animal fats, salt and sugar. Make you meals more appealing by using contrasting colors.

• Balance your meals with rich and light foods. For example, do not have all fried foods in one meal. If you have fried chicken, you may balance it with a fresh salad instead of having French fries.
